HSG 175
HSG175 is the current industry
standard guidance published by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). It
provides guidance on the safe design, manufacture and operation of Fairground
and Amusement rides.
The guidance is entitled:
Fairgrounds and Amusements Parks: Fairgrounds and amusement parks: Managing
health and safety Guidance on safe practice , HSG 175, 2007.
The guidance develops the good practice concerned with the overall safety
management of attractions with emphasis on risk assessment. It outlines a system
of independant inspection of rides both before use and thereafter annually. It
also outlines responsibilities for designers, manufacturers, suppliers,
controllers and operators.
The system of independant inspection is implemented by ADIPS Limited who
administer the
Amusement Devices Inspection Procedures Scheme (ADIPS).
This system calls for
a review of the design
for each type of device, an assessment for every device before first use to
confirm that it conforms to the design
reviewed and for every device
a test prior to first use
. Thereafter on an
annual basis an independant inspection
is required.
