HSEC were employed to conduct a safety culture
review and provide a detailed focus report
analysing safety culture indicators and concerns
expressed by the customer. The following
methods are examples of how such indicators were
revealed:
- Analysis of the Safety Management System
- Review of Safety Training
- Tours of Site
- Inspection of Records
- Interviews with Workforce (Personnel, Safety
& Medical Departments)
The review was also able to highlight issues
associated with communication, for instance
mistrust and disrespect between workforce &
management, and between management and senior
management.
Questionnaires were used to determine if
apparent mistrust was across all departments and
hence a generic issue, or whether it was
concentrated within departments; thus skewing
the results. Analysis of this data was
presented both for individual departments and
for the company as a whole and allowed HSEC to
determine the most appropriate action plan to
address such issues.
HSEC were able to provide a list of possible
tangible targets or indicators to allow
benchmarking of the current company position and
subsequently to measure the progress of the
initiatives put in place to take the
safety/business culture forward.
