Refurbishment
Technical Project Management of a multi million
shaft and winder refurbishment including major
civil, mechanical, structural and electrical
equipment. Services included, Feasibility,
specification, Contract Management, site
supervision and planning supervisor roles.
Mechanical, electrical and track laying training
programmes were provided for the work force. The
project required replacement of headgear,
conveyances, ropes, and surface and inset
materials handling systems, and the control and
signalling system for the winder and shaft side
equipment. Winding System Hoist testing was done
in accordance with HSE requirements. Design and
specification of mine gas fired CHP and the
vehicle brake testing was also completed by
HSEC.
The changeover, including removal of the old
headgear and installation of headgear and shaft
equipment was completed within a three-week
shutdown. The project was completed to time and
budget.
Assessment of Control Room
Effectiveness
Recording of operations at all the companies
mine control rooms to determine the factors,
which could reduce efficiency and ability to
respond to emergencies. The study was undertaken
by detailed recording and analysis of control
room activities in a typical 24-hour period.
