HSEC provided risk assessment of new buffer stop
equipment being fitted to station on the West
Coast Main Line. This work involved a multi-
faceted approach to risk assessment, being both
qualitative and quantitative.
The work was
undertaken according to the procedures detailed
in Yellow Book 3 as well as following latest
draft and published railway guidance documents.
The work involved engineering assessment of the
new structures as well as a comprehensive and
holistic approach to all the risk factors
associated with train end stop overruns; human,
machine and environment. The multi-method
approach ensures the same risks are assessed
from different perspectives ensuring a
comprehensive and consistent approach to safety
with clearly defined and soundly justified
control measures.
